Why We’re Building Readr

We all know the feeling.

You pick up a book you’ve been excited to read... and then life happens. Work piles up, your phone buzzes, Netflix drops a new series, and before you know it, weeks have passed. The book is still sitting on the bedside table, untouched.

If you’ve ever been there - wanting to read more but struggling to stay consistent - you’re not alone. That’s exactly why we’re building Readr: to make reading easier, more motivating, and more connected.

So, What is Readr?
Readr is a social reading app that helps you track your reading in real time, stay motivated, and connect with friends who are reading too. Think of it like Strava for books - you can log your reading sessions, see what your friends are reading, and keep track of how many pages you’ve flipped. You can even save your favourite pages or quotes to come back to later.

The goal? Make reading more engaging, more accessible, and easier to keep up with, whether you’re reading every day or just picking it up when you can.

Why Do We Need It?
Somewhere along the way, reading apps became complicated.

What should feel simple - picking up a book, getting lost in a few pages - started to feel like another project to manage. Instead of feeling relaxed and inspired, it can start to feel like pressure.

We built Readr because we wanted something different. Something that brings the focus back to the act of reading - with a simple, supportive way to track your sessions and stay motivated by seeing others do the same.

No pressure. No overthinking. Just reading, and feeling good about it.

Why Are We So Excited About Readr?
We get it. Reading isn’t always easy, especially when life gets in the way. We've been there too - starting a book with good intentions, only for it to sit on the bedside for weeks. But we've also seen how seeing friends’ progress in apps like Strava can motivate us to push harder in workouts. There’s something about seeing others stay consistent that makes you want to do the same. And that’s exactly the kind of motivation we want to bring to reading.

Instead of reading being a solo task, we wanted to make it a shared experience. A place where your friends’ progress can give you that little nudge to pick up your book. Where you can track your own progress, compare stats, and even get a little friendly competition going. The idea is simple: if we can make reading more connected, more social, and more accessible, we think it’ll become a habit that sticks.

What Makes Readr Different?
What makes Readr stand out is how we’ve flipped the script on the typical reading app. Most apps track your reading in isolation - it’s just you and your log, no one else. But Readr is all about connection.

Whether you're reading at home, at the beach, or in a café, Readr lets you share the journey with your friends. You can track your sessions alongside theirs, celebrating every hour read, every page turned, and every streak kept alive. It’s any time, any place, any one - because reading shouldn’t be limited to a solo experience.

It’s about creating a space where you can stay motivated, feel supported, and celebrate the progress that’s meaningful to you. Whether you’re reading a few pages a day or knocking out a chapter a week, Readr gives you the tools to stay on track - and keep enjoying the process.

With Readr, you’re never reading alone.
You're reading together, whenever and wherever you like.

The Lasting Impact: Building a Reading Habit That Sticks
We want Readr to be the app that helps people build a lasting reading habit - not just because it’s good for you, but because it’s engaging, inspiring, and something you’ll want to keep doing. We want to make reading something you share with your friends, something that connects you to others, and something that motivates you to keep coming back for more.

It’s not just about hitting reading goals or ticking off pages. It’s about enjoying the process, learning new things, and having meaningful moments to share with others. That’s why we want to inspire even those who don’t see themselves as readers yet — and show them how reading can be accessible, motivating, and a part of their social world too.

If Readr can help you read more consistently, stay motivated, and feel more connected to your reading, then we’ll know we’ve succeeded. Because at the end of the day, reading isn’t just about finishing books - it’s about enjoying the journey, learning new things, and connecting with others.

A personal journey from the founders, James and Edoardo.

So, whether you’re a seasoned reader, someone getting back into it, or even a non-reader curious to start, Readr is here for you. Let’s make reading more social, more engaging, and more connected. Together, we can build a reading habit that lasts - for everyone.
